Piran, the Slovenian name for the former Italian (I'd better say, Venetian) Pirano, is the most lovely place along the short Slovenian coast on the Northern Adriatic shores. Piran, Izola and Koper (Capodistria) are the three administrative centres along the 46 km long Slovenian shore, while Portoroz is maybe the most celebrated place, due to its Casino.
Piran is right on the North-west tip of the Istrian peninsula, which is presently divided between Slovenia and Croatia. When the Southern "scirocco" blows, the waves breaking along the wall stones on the sea-front are really impressive.
