o Rio de Janeiro ... continua liiindo!!! - Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is one among the few places in which you cannot avoid feeling a spirit emanating from somewhere, something like a<i> "genus loci"</i> which gives an independent life to apparently inanimated things and places. In Rio, as well as in Venice, I had the impression to be fully immersed in a living being.. do you know about then"Gaia" theory?? Well, something similar.

As a matter of respect to the 7 millions inhabitants, it is compulsory to mention that what we - tourists or occasional visitors - refer to as "Rio" is just a small portion of the real city: a mere 2 millions people is living in those areas which are familiar to us: Botafogo, Flamengo, Leme, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, Gavea ... this is also know as "Zona Sul". But Rio has also a "Centro" and a "Norte" and a huge urban area called "Baixada Fluminense". While "Centro" is mainly the financial and business area (almost desert at night ), the Northern area and the Baixada are the popular areas where most of the common people live.
Of course, it is easier to show and promote Southern Rio (Brazilian "novelas" or soap-operas are always based on situations and sceneries typical to Rio Zona Sul), but that is not real Rio, just a small portion.
