Brno. "Bruenn" auf Deutsch. The second largest city in the Czech Republic, capital of Moravia. If Prague is the City of a Thousand Spires, a joke around here was that Brno is the City of a Hundred Smokestacks. Now, having said that, somne of the finest times of my life were in this city. A thriving university, lots of Functionalist architecture, easy access to lots of places (Vienna is an hour by car, Bratislava an hour and a half, the Moravian Karst region with limestone caves and beautiful plants life, the lovely town of Mikulov, et al.) and a culture that grows and thrives all the time, Brno is worth going to for a few months, and also has things for the more casual tourist. You just have to look for them..... |
