This was where I spent a lot of time in my California trip, as my friend Anchella and her husband David graciously opened their home to me. It’s about half an hour drive from the San Jose International Airport, very close to “Silicon Valley” – the area where all these big (and small) techie companies hold their headquarters. As an aside: the drive to and from the airport as well as the drive from Gilroy to San Francisco, I saw from the freeways: the Compaq headquarters, the Adobe headquarters, the Apple headquarters, the IBM headquarters, the HP headquarters and the Western Digital headquarters. Since I work in the information technology industry, seeing all these buildings was pretty exciting!
The city of Gilroy is primarily a residential and agricultural area located in the south Santa Clara county with a population of about 40,000. It’s a pretty place surrounded by hills, parks and farmland. Its most famous commodity is garlic. This city is best known as the Garlic Capital of the World, and every July, this city holds its annual Garlic Festival. It is also famous for its shopping outlets!!! Shopaholics will go crazy here. Ralph Lauren. Nike. Nine West. Guess. Calvin Klein. Ann Taylor. Mikasa. Esprit. Eddie Bauer. The list goes on and on and on. :)
