Perth is a beautiful, rather small (1,4 Mio. inhabitants, this is 80% of the whole Western Australian population!) city, lying at the idyllic Swan River. It was founded in 1829 as a prisoner colony. There are some beautiful buildings left from this area: the Barracks, St. George's and St. Mary's Cathedral, the Old Firestation, Town Hall, the Deanery...

These are supplemented by some interesting new buildings like the Swan Bells and several hotels and business skyscrapers.

The city is also very green with lots of parks like the Kings Park, Botanic Gardens, Stirling and Supreme Court Gardens. You can watch many people enjoying their lunch break in the parks sitting on banks on just on the lawn.

Following the Swan River outside Perth you will come to the beautiful Swan Valley which is a famous vinegrowing area. Since tourism is just about to start here, it's hard to find open restaurants in the evening (not to tell after 8 p.m.!).
