Although it became famous due to French films with Brigitte Bardot in the Fifties and got the centre of Jet-Set, Saint-Tropez is still a small and idyllic fishing village.
It is said that the area has a very special light so there are a lot of painters living and working there. And it is true - the colours are much more vivid there - I have no idea, why... ;-) |
| | The painters have their pictures exposed right at the port where you can look at them while they're painting their next oeuvre.
You can find classic pictures of French landscape - Cote d'Azur, Provence, Camargue but also modern art, mostly oil or acryl but also water colours.
On my last visit mid of May I was lucky to be there when Saint-Tropez held celebrations for its founder, the Roman militarist Tropez. About 100 men in 17th or 18th century uniforms did a parade and fired with old guns. |
