"Pulau Mabul - perfect island and perfect diving" Pulau Mabul by gabyne

Pulau Mabul Travel Guide: 14 reviews and 71 photos

Mabul is a small island on the east coast of Borneo. It belongs to the Malaysian State of Sabah. Mabul is close to the world famous island of Sipadan - they are both very good diving spots. The third excellent spot is called Kapalai - which is not an island but a small sandbank with a resort on stilts on it.

In the meantime, the resorts on Sipadan were closed due to environmental reasons; the reef was severely damaged by too many divers and sewage. However, it is still possible for a limited number of divers per day to visit the dive spots of Sipadan from Mabul or Kapalai.

You can walk around Mabul island in about 30 or 40 minutes. There are several resorts on the island - we stayed at the SMART resort. Furthermore, there are sea gypsies living on the island.
