If you are looking to visit Perth and are struggling to find a place to stay in Perth CBD - just go to Freo instead. It's a 20min train ride into the city (costs $3.80) and it's much quieter at night - and you get the added benefit of being able to walk without craning your head to look at skyscrapers.

If Perth is exactly like every other major capital city in a first world country, Fremantle is the breath of fresh air at it's doorstep. Fremantle is the St Kilda of Melbourne, the Ko Tao of the Ko Samui and the Collongatta of the Gold Coast. If you want a break from the party, find an entirely different kind of party here.

Fremantle is just so easy to walk around in. Walk around the city centre, walk to the docks, walk to the southern beaches and walk in the suburbs. Just get a feel for the quiet life and see what in my opinion Perth is much better suited for than the over-populated Perth City.
