Sundsvall has a teeming city life with great possibilities for shopping and strolling. Large clothing chains mingle with small boutiques. History
Sundsvall were founded at 1621 by King Gustav Adolf II. He is present today as a proud statue on Stora Torget. A tragedy turned the heart of Sundsvall into what it is today. On Midsummers Day 1888 fire ravaged old Sundsvall and made 9.000 people homeless overnight. The Timber Magnates, wealthy sawmill owners, were not at a loss. A new town of stone was to be raised and it was to be lavish. The architectural ideals were imported from the Continent and included parks and boulevards. Thus, the Stone City of Sundsvall was born and today the buildnings still appear as they did at the end of the 19th century.

Today Sundsvall has 95.000 residents and about 20.000 people live in central Sundsvall. The mean temperature in January is -5,2 C and there is an average of 50 hours of sunshine. In July the mean temperature is +17,7 C with an average of 310 hours of sunshine.
