"Bonnie Scotland" Scotland by Sprucebeer

Living in the French Province of Canada (Quebec), very few people here know why one would travel to Scotland. Before going, I was often asked why? Are your ancestral roots from there? I’m sure that I have some family background from Scotland along the line somewhere, but there is much more to the Country than tracing back your roots.

Scotland is an amazing country with charming people and awe-inspiring views… the views! No wonder Scotland gave birth to so many writers and poets. I don’t blame the Royal Family for making this special place their home for the holidays. Scotland is also a country rich in history, a tragic one at that and has also given birth to many ingenious entrepreneurs, inventors and revolutionists.

Scotland has so much to offer, scenery, people, history, whisky of course and don’t forget the golf! What hit me the most during our travels was the bareness of the Highlands. The hills are so bare!! They seemed to be covered in grass/moss and heather; no trees, no farms, no people. There are some spots of forest, privately owned for lumber, and some villages here and there. But for the most part you are on your own and seem lost in the vastness of the land. There is wildlife however, not easy to spot, which promotes hunting on the land. The most popular event being grouse hunting in the heather clad hills.
