Definitely a must see. Brings you back to an important time in history. I knew the story of Anne Frank, but seeing the house… I couldn’t get over how small the living quarters were, where they remained for two years. Makes you think about the horror they went through for 2 years and the even greater horror to follow. You can roam around the whole canal house except for the top attic.

Westerkerk just down the street from the Anne Frank House. Anne Frank would listen to the bells from the tower. A climb to the top is a must. For a very small fee you get a guided tour of the tower and a spectacular view of the city.

85-m (280-ft) climb up the tower I think was almost 400 steps. Don't worry there are a couple of levels, you don't have to climb it all in one shot.

The view from the top makes the climb worth while. Although walking out on the edge is not really for those who are afraid of heights.

The Rijksmuseum’s main building is under restoration. However they are showing The Masterpieces of the Golden Age in the Philips Wing. The Dolls’ Houses on the ground floor is also a must see.

Canal boat cruise, sounds like a tourist trap but is really worth it. You learn about sites and the different canals. Gives you a different view than from the streets and especially beautiful at night.

Built in 1488 as part of the old town’s fortifications. Later became a weigh house and then a prison. Now a multimedia centre and a restaurant.

Dam Square itself is a must see. It is the main square in Amsterdam, in the centre of the city and is the location of the Royal Palace, Nieuwe Kerk, National Monument and Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. Here you will also find some street performers, many tourists and pigeons everywhere. When walking through the blanket of pigeons, they don’t fly away… they are so used to people. I even saw one guy feeding a pigeon sitting on his shoulder and it was pecking right in his mouth… gross lol!

Located on Dam Square, the 17th century building was originally designed as the city hall. Later it became the Royal Palace in 1808. The Royal Family now lives in The Hague so this building is mainly used for official state functions, receptions and ceremonies. You can visit the interior on certain days. Entrance Fee: Adults €4.50 (€6.50 with audio tour) Free guided tours are available at 2pm on Wednesdays and Sundays.
