Acapulco began to be viewed as a vacation destination not until the 1920's. The Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VIII, visited the bay on a fishing excursion in 1920. Soon, wealthy Mexicans were wintering in the quiet seaside village. Eventually, villas and mansions were built on the south of the island owned by wealthy people from all over the world.
On September 9 through 16, 2000, my friend Patrick and I toured Acapulco and its outskirts. Inspite of Continental Airlines almost ruined our vacation due to flight delays from LaGuardia and Bush Airports and Patrick's 3-day lost luggage, we still managed to make our trip fun.
Exciting and fortunate to meet two witty pretty sisters and their aunt traveling from California, so Patrick and I had hooked up with them to travel to Taxco and Iztapa/Zihuatanejo. We then discovered an isolated beach on Isla Roqueta. And lastly, we celebrated the Mexican Independence Day on September 15 at one of the exclusive discoteques in Acapulco - the Palladium. |
