Abril in Portugal

by Pinoy - last update: May 8, 2004

"Abril in Portugal" was popularized by a prolific cabaret singer Ertha Kitt, although this trip was in November, it still reminded me of that song. Bem vindo ao Portugal.

Portugal is claimed to be considered as one of the regions of Spain (Hispania) in ancient and medieval times. It became an independent monarchy in the 12th century and in the 15th and 16th centuries it became the center of a vast colonial empire.

By air, NYC to the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, is only five hours. Although there was an hour delay at JFK Airport, we arrived in Lisbon on time. The delay was caused by two dignitary people - former US President George Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. Learning afterwards, Mr. Bush was the guest speaker of the IATA Convention in Lisbon for a week.

This page walk you through the old city of Lisboa. It will then take you to discover the colorful bay of Cascais and luxuriant Sintra. A tour to the north of Obidos, the walled town, where you will experience its picturesque streets. Then we will visit the towns of Alcobaca, Nazare, Batalha Monastery, and finally to Fatima; known to Christians for pilgrimage.
