Alanya is a small town in the South of Turkey. It is located at a height of 10 meters above sea level. From the north Alanya is encircled by the Taurus Mountains and from the south by Mediterranean Sea. The peninsula, where Alanya is situated, is the place where the Taurus Mountains are the closest to the sea.
Almost the whole year round you can swim in the warm sea. There are sunny days all tourist season, which lasts from May until October. The mountains though, hide the seaboard from cold northern winds, so as not to darken your holiday.
Alanya is one of the most beautiful towns on the southern coast of Antalya,
which has a very interesting history.
It was founded in the IV century BC. In the Roman Empire times, there was a famous pirate base by the name Coracesion. After piratical roads booty was received in Fortress, which was naval staff at the same time.
Later Mark Antony presented Cleopatra this town and nearest territory. Cleopatra changed this place and made it her favorite place for the rest.
In XIII century Seljuk ruler Alaadin occupied the town. Coracesion was given a new name Alaya. Due to the fact that Alaya port was very closed to the Seljuk Capital Konya, it excelled Antalya port in trade and military.
