About the city of Rodos According to mythology, the island was named after Rodos, the wife of Sun. The city of Rodos was built by Ippodamos in 408 B.C. During the 4th century the island knew a big intellectual, aconomical and artistical development and a sample of that period is the famous Kolossos. In the city of Rodos, buildings like the City Hall, the Port Authority, the Prefecture, the Bank of Greece, the National Theatre, the New Market and the Hotel of Roses (housing the Casino) were constructed by the Italians (1912-1945).
