Porto Cheli is seaside village situated in the shouthernmost part of the Prefecture of Argolida.It belongs to the Municipality of Kranidi.It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Argolida and has a highly developed tourist infrastructure.
It is said that the name comes from a gradual corruption of language of the name Alieis (of the ancient city that was situated there)which was changed to Halieis and then to Heli.The first part of the name Porto was given because it has a port.
The name of the place means the Bay of the Eels.
