Don't be confused! Karavomylos is the other name of the village of Vlachata and you will hear it more often like this. It is about 2 km from Sami, which is the main port of Kefallonia, and it is really picturesque. This time I stayed in one hotel in Karavomylos not is Sami as I used to do. |
| | The lake At the edge of the village, among bushes and trees, there is one almost circular lake with fresh water which runs to the beach of Sami. Inside the lake you will see ducks. There is a restaurant by the lake as well. |
| | Geological phenomenon The village was destroyed during the earthquakes of 1953 and it was rebuilt.
Geological Phenomenon The sea water that constantly falls and disappears into the sinkholes (Katavothres) near Argostoli, after a subterranean journey through the island appears again in Melissani Lake in semi-salted form. Following a new subterranean route, it ends up in Karavomylos Lake, gets into the large water wheel and, finally, into the sea once again. The journey from Katavothres to Sami Bay takes 14 days
