HERE'S a map of the general... and other Rochester, NY General Tips

Favorite Thing: HERE'S a map of the general area...ROCHESTER is halfway between Buffalo and Syracuse Lake Ontario... I know many of the VT people are from overseas..so I hope this helps;-)

Rochester isnt exactly a tourist destination but there are many nice things to do and see in Rochester..Sports-wise there are no NHL/NFL/NBA major sports there...the Redwings(baseball), Amerks(hockey) and the soccer and lacrosse teams are all farm teams of major frachises elsewhere. Most people root for the Buffalo Bills 90 miles away. Its not all Rochesters fault as sports have never been a big industry in upstate New York,,,for example up untill recently there were only TWO division 1 university football teams in the entire state: Syracuse University and SUNY Buffalo. California with a similar population has 23 division 1 football teams. So Upstate New York has its sports limitations. The good news is most of the good stuff here has little to do with sports franchises and has to do with the city and the surrounding area.

Fondest Memory: Rochester is the 3rd largest city in New York State and has about 1.2 million people in the greater metropolitan area. But one thing it has is ALOT of parks...Genesee Valley Park, Powdermill Park, Mendon Ponds Park, Highland Park, Cobbs Hill Park, Seneca Park(zoo), Ellison Park, Ontario Beach Park, Durand Eastman Park, Maplewood Park, Irondequoit Bay Park, High Falls Park, Tryon Park, Brighton Town Park, Genesee Crossroads Park, Manhatten Square Park...I remember lots and lots of parks.

Fondest Memory: This is a poscard from 1915 that has been colorised. Rochester has many old buildings and has a rich history as the hometown of Frederick Douglas, George Eastman and Susan B Anthony.
