URICH..Good News and Bad news..Mostly Good;-)

by Michael_D - last update: Sep 11, 2002

The bad news is if youre seeking excitement, raucus bars and nightlife, Zurich is not your kind of vacation destination. But if you have an affinity for 19th century European cities untouched by commercialism with long walking quays along a peacefull lake and unhurried saunters in a safe city of compact ilk and laconic views, then ZURICH is what you have been missing all your life, maybe.

Zurich may be Helvitia's largest city(380,000+), but you would never know it to look at it, as it forms a "Y" shaped mini-sprawl along the banks of the river Limmat between the wooded slopes of Zurichberg and Uetilberg.
Though it is the biggest city, it is not, as many people think, the capitol of Switzerland. It was at one time(1848) but that distinction now belongs to Berne.

It is the most industrialised of the cities without being the Detroit of Switzerland but, it has a well heeled-stately ambiance that tends to make you wonder what that industry might be. The answer is hard to pinpoint as the industries are diversified, run on clean electric power and contribite roughly 1/5th of the Swiss national wealth annually.Ive been there a number of times and didnt realise any of this untill I dug deeper, but still I prefer to enjoy Zurich for its outward, well-heeled, calm yet warm appearence.

Zurich can be a great experience without even trying. Everything is easy to get to..everything is amazingly orderly...and everything is enjoyable.
