Eiger tales - in love with a mountain Grindelwald is still my favourite spot to go hiking, aeven if it´s crowded with tourists. In summer it´s the spot to go hiking or biking or paragliding, in winter it´s a big ski region.... And last but not least it´s the starting point of the trains up to Jungfraujoch, with 3454 m the highest train station of Europe. A must on a clear day... I have been there three times now and love it...as it´s the only way to get that high if you are not into mountaineering.
My personal Grindelwald memories include some VT hikes with Elisabeth (rebibi) and her husband Remo, who twice made the way from Zuerich to meet me there and go on a hike with me. We always had some great hours together... Thanks folks for everything! And thank you VT....
This pic shows a part of the glacier you can see from the station "Eismeer" (Sea of Ice"), a stop on your way to the top of Europe. Don´t miss this stops, get out of the waggons.... The trains are only stopping for five minutes, so you better hurry to get some good views out.... |
| A break with fantastic viiews inclusive! |
| | Hiking routes On the summer trip in 2006 I first did the Eiger Trail, a mountain path, which goes along the foot of this famous mountain. I have read many books above the history of it´s mountaineering and am fascinated by this mountain. It´s not very beautiful, but really impressive with it´s north face. So hiking along this mountain really was something special for me....
Took the path uphill from Alpiglen. It took us two hours and 45 minutes to reach the Eigergletscher station of the Jungfraubahnen train. Loved it!!! |
