Blansko is an important industrial town in the valley of the river Svitava, by its confluence with the stream Punkva. It is an important entry place to the central part of Moravian Karst. The name of Blansko indicates a settlement on a swamp as the term "blana" had this meaning in Old Czech. The oldest settlement was on the right bank of Svitava. It was mentioned in the year 1141 as a property of the Olomouc episcopate. During the Hussite wars was the town in hands of Jan Zelezny, the enemy of chalice, so it was attacked several times by the army of Prokop Holy.

The most important sight is the late Renaissance chateau, built during the years 1591-1604, today a museum with expositions of ironmongery from prehistory till present time. There is also an exposition of Blansko and Moravian Karst history.

Very precious is also the wooden church of St. Paraskiva. The church belongs to the Czechoslovak Hussite Church and could be found at Rodkovského street. The church was built in the 17th century in Nizhne Seliste in Russia and was moved to Blansko in the year 1936.
