The Baroque chateau built in the fashion of the Italian villa at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, represents a unique example of architectural complexity. It is assumed that this ostentatious building was raised in the pursuit of the project originated by the architect, D. Martinelli. Obviously, after D. Martinelli had left for Rome in 1705, the building was completed by Moravian architect, Moritz Grimm. Sumptuous stucco decorations of palace rooms, containing, were made by B. Fontannau. In the late 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century the chateau was carefully adapted by the architect, D. Fey and Prof. Leixner into the representative residence of Leopold Brechtold, a diplomat of Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. Both the chateau and the palace gardens were enriched by sculptural decorations and additional architectural elements. The original Baroque garden of the Italian, terrace-like character, was extended by a large, natural romantic park with many indigenous as well as exotic tree species. At the present time, these represent one of the most important dendrological collections in the Czech lands. South Moravia is a region which has maintained a very strong folklore, including typical manifestations of popular architecture, clothing, ceramics, furniture and dialects.
The area with the most distinctive cultural tradition is Slovacko, the region between the White Carpathian Mountains which separate Morava from Slovakia, and Chriby, the hills near the lower part of the Morava river. The ceremonious attire of boys and girls is most impressive during the "Hody" holiday, the largest celebration of every village in Slovacko, when the typical folk songs cannot be missed.
