I moved to this state in the very west of Germany in summer 2002 and I love this part of the country --- cities like Cologne, Essen, Duisburg, Dortmund, Bochum, Oberhausen, Düsseldorf etc etc.

There is industry and interesting places all over the shop and it's really interesting to see all the ports and coalmines, the footie stadiums and the green bits. Plus it only takes you seconds to get from one city to the next so you have a great variety of places there!

Zeche Zollverein

Make sure not to miss my Zeche Zollverein travelogue with pictures from this former coalmine.

In 2001 the grounds of this pit became Unesco World Heritage. The former factory buildings were partly turned into museums by famous architect Sir Norman Foster.

Indoor Skiing

Cold, tired, wet and hungry after 3 hrs

Pros and Cons

Pros:Lots pf people, sights, green, cities - all so close to each other!
Cons:You have to be into industrial art to like it! Some people would probably just hate it!
In a nutshell:I love it here! There's always something new to explore

I love to hate the Oberhausen Gasometer, good to hear it has a new function with changing exibitions, would love to see it good Ruhrgebiet page ^..^
