Alte Bastei - Cologne

Alte Bastei

Alte Bastei

Wilhelm Riphahn was the architect who built lots of buildings in Cologne. One of his most beautiful buildings is Alte Bastei, a panorama restaurant that looks a bit like a caroussel which was built in 1924.

Unfortunately nowadays the place is closed and a bit run down, it must have been beautiful to eat in a stylish place like this overlooking the Rhine. It's still a nice spot to get some great architecture shots.

The Bastei is located at the Rhine, where the northern part of the inner city ring meets the street along the Rhine.

Museum für ostasiatische Kunst - Cologne

Museum für ostasiatische Kunst

Museum für ostasiatische Kunst

When Niksa visited Cologne this place was on his "list of architectural beauties in Cologne". We haven't been inside this museum for east asian art but had a look from the outside.

The museum is in a very nice building directly at Aachener Weiher, a nice lake at the outer ring around Cologne. Inside the building you will find art from Eastern Asia as well as a nice Asian garden and a very nice cafeteria.

Colonius - Cologne

Colonius -TV Tower

Unfortunately it's not possible to go up Cologne's television tower anymore. You can have a look at it though to see Northrhine Westphalia's highest TV tower (with 266 metres) and the obligatory magenta coloured T ;-)

Kammermusik im Kronleuchtersaal

Classical Concerts in the sewage of Cologne!!! I just saw this on telly, there are concerts at a crossroads of sewage canals. This place was opened by Kaiser Wilhelm so there's a chandelier there - thus the name!

People are really dressed up and they get mint to hold in front of their noses when it gets smelly. I have to find out more, I want to see this!!!! Does anybody know more details?
