A great choice and huuuuuuge portions! A main course is around EURO 10-15, starters are EURO 3-10.
Favorite Dish: I had Sweet & Sour Chicken which was rather spicy (be careful with the red chillies!!) but a taste sensation!!

Directions: In Zeedijk Next to Nam Kee (which is named in every guidebook I know!) opposite the Chinese Buddhist temple (on the picture). It's always packed with people but you will always get a free seat if you wait a little while!

Restaurant Name: La Place
This is a foodcourt with a great choice of sandwiches, warm meals, salads, deserts etc. Prizes are rather low, around NLG 15 for a main course, NLG 4 for a piece of (lovely) cake. Portions are big. One of the places with the best value I found in Amsterdam!
Favorite Dish: The strawberry cakes!!!!! The chips!!! And the sandwiches looked nice, too!

Restaurant Name: Nam Kee
This is maybe the most popular Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam. Always busy, and that's even though the staff is not really friendly.....
Favorite Dish: The Sweet and Sour Chicken was nice... I've heard that the seafood dishes (oysters or lobster) are excellent but as I don't like fish I haven't tried them... The guy next to me had a whole lobster. I was very scared that the whole thing would end up on my lap quite a few times!

Restaurant Name: 1e clas
This fancy restaurant in the central station used to be the waiting hall for the 1st class train passengers and it kept the design of it!!! Lovely old fashioned atmosphere!
Favorite Dish: I had pork filet with a lovely sauce and an excellent sorbet with fresh fruit afterwards.

Have Surinamese food - very exotic! There are hundreds of little Surinamese take away restaurants in Amsterdam.
Favorite Dish: Roti - consisting of potatoes, vegetables, chicken, egg, bread and a light curry sauce.

Restaurant Name: Cafe Fonteyn
A lovely cosy so called 'brown cafe' with oldfashioned wallpaper and furniture. Really a place to sit around for ages and just enjoy it. Ladies, make sure to check out the toilet - full of plastic flowers - even at the ceiling. Have a look up!
Favorite Dish: The atmosphere ;-) .. and a 'Kip' (chicken) sandwich!

Restaurant Name: Sea Palace
I still don't know whether I should put this here or to 'Tourist Traps'. I decided to put it here because the views & the location is really nice and it's a great place for a romantic dinner. It's just that the food is too expensive and you get much better chinese food if you go to the Chinatown part of Amsterdam.
Favorite Dish: I had a filled pineapple with chicken. Quite tasty. But to be honest I think the view is better than the food!

Good Bagels, Sandwiches, Muffins etc. The cafe is nice because the interieur design is really simple (cuckoo (Oh my god, I'm German and I can't even spell this ;-) clocks etc) but it's a place to sit around for hours.
Favorite Dish: Just a creme cheese Bagel with chives...hmmmmm

I've been only in Schiphol during 1 hour :-)) I was rushing too because I thought the airport is not big and spent time in shops/restaurant but suddenly I realized I might lost my plane. Fortunately my plane was delayed a bit cause of weather :-) |
