"Charme and Cruise Tourists" Dubrovnik by sabsi

It's already been a year since we were in Dubrovnik so I guess it's about time I build a page, eh? Let's see how much I can still remember of the two hot and humid days we spend here...

We came to Dubrovnik for two nights on our big balkans trip in May 2008. It was the southernmost stop of our trip and the last stop in Croatia before going to Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as to Slovenia.

We spend one and a half days in the old town of Dubrovnik, stayed in a very nice guesthouse, enjoyed two lovely evenings and had some fantastic food. Our main tasks, however, were not to be ripped off and to stay in the shade.

Unfortunately the humidity was very high when we visited so the typical walk around the old town walls was out of question. It also meant we spent a lot of time and money for drinks and for hanging around outside the cafes of the old town. So as Dubrovnik is the most expensive part of Croatia this also was our most expensive stop during our trip. We enjoyed it, anyway.

Hope you enjoy this page about one of the places you simply have to see once in a lifetime!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Beautiful old town, spectacular location, sunny weather
  • Cons:Way too many tourists in town, you have to be lucky that there's no cruise ship in the port
  • In a nutshell:I wouldn't come here in high season - too warm and too crowded.

And Dubrovnik. You did it well, as usual...

Fabulous page here. I definitely agree on your general opinion about Dubrovnik. Also last week the city was packed with cruise tourists and people kept telling us that it was already low season. Oh and I liked both Buffet Skola and Spaghetteria Toni.

I enjoyed reading your page after our visit there! BTW, I was very happy with my Spaghetti at Toni's. I agree the town is overcrowded but after dark and during heavy rain it's fantastic.

I'm off to Dubrovnik early in the morning - meeting Holger and Sonja there. Think I'll try Mediteraneo this time!

Sounds like a great find, Sabs. I found rooms in Slovenia very over priced compared to everything else. I imagine Croatia has a similar discrepancy. :S
