Michele: Great wallpaper

We walked by this little cafe/pizzeria a few times and when we were thirsty and finally had gotten money from the ATM again we went here for a drink. We basically went here because the furniture and the wallpaper looked wonderfully old fashioned. Because of this we didn't even care that the drinks came from a can and that the whole place smelled of pizza. The cakes looked great but I am not too sure about their taste after lying in the same room as the pizza oven is all day.

Apparently this restaurant belongs to Hotel Michele, my favourite when searching for accommodation in Sarajevo. Unfortunately it was a bit too expensive for us to stay there. If you are travelling with a bigger budget, make sure to check this site out (especially room 41!): http://www.hotelmichele.ba/

Cevapcici - Sarajevo

Cevapcici

Zeljo, Hodzic or Ferhatovic?: Cevapcici Heaven

When you are in Sarajevo of course you have to try the original Cevapcici (Meatballs)! (Yes, everything you've heard is wrong, they are traditionally Bosnian!). They are served in a pita bread along with chopped onions and (Serbian) Ajvar. A very filling meet for little money, normally a portion costs around 5-7 KM.

There are different recommendations around about in which Cevabdžinica to get the best Cevapcici in Sarajevo. When surfing the web you read a lot about Zeljo, people told us a lot about Ferhatovic and still we went to Hodzic (because of its perfect location for people watching on the main square of Bašcaršija). Decide for yourself!

The waiter at Hodzic who spoke very good German was very friendly and entertaining and we enjoyed sitting here for a while, drinking many Cokes and watching locals and tourists pass.

Favorite Dish: Unfortunately I had a weak stomach the day we visited so I only had a drink. Thomas tried the Cevapi of course. They were good but apparently not as good as the ones we had in Mostar. According to Thomas they tasted the same as Bašcaršija smells ;)

In BiH the Cevapcici are obviously made without any pork because there are so many Muslims living here. The meat they use is beef and lamb.

Pivnica HS, Sarajevo - Sarajevo

Pivnica HS, Sarajevo

Pivnica HS (Sarajevska Pivara): Sausages and Beer

We had read and heard about this restaurant at Sarajevo Brewery so when we approached it during lunchtime we decided to try their dark beer and sausages, just as the brochure "Walking tour through Sarajevo" suggested. When coming in this huge beer hall you feel like having travelled in time and location.

The place looked so much like a big English pub. The food, however, was very much Bosnian. So was the beer, there's a dark and a light version available.

Apparently this restaurant was only opened in 2004. A shocker! I thought that I sat in a traditional old beer hall from Austro-Hungarian times...

Favorite Dish: We had the house specialty, sausages. They were beef sausages which were available in three different flavours, spicy, mild and with garlic. We tried the spicy and the garlic sausages and preferred the spicy ones which were really good. Along with it we had mustard, lovely Pretzels and a huge portion of chips for both of us.
