Oxford Things to Do
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Christ Church: Christ Church
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is the college most tourists visit. It has some nice buildings and greens, England's smallest cathedral and the beautitful dining hall which was made famous by the Harry Potter film that was made here (see next tip).

Admission is £3 if you're not coming with a local student with an expired student ID ;)

Christ Church: Dining Hall at Christ Church College
  • Tip Rating:
  • The dining hall at Christ Church is really beautiful. The dark room is full of long tables, the walls are full of old pictures. A room like this makes it hard to imagine that students actually have dinner here. It helps to know that everybody who has dinner here has to dress up to fit the surroundings I guess.

Apparently the Harry Potter film was shot here. Probably that's why this was the only place that was full of tourists when I was in Oxford.

  • This cathedral which is part of Christ Church College is England's smallest cathedral and the reason why Oxford can call itself a city.

  • A beautiful park behind Christ Church College. It's a nice place for a picnic at the river. You can watch the people punting - some look like they know what they are doing and some don't!

Bridge of Sighs: The Bridge of Sighs
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Bridge of Sighs belongs to Hertford College. It joins two parts of the college. It was built in 1913, obviously with the Venice original in mind!

  • This was my favourite college of all the ones we visited. A beautiful courtyard, a little chapel with a famous choir, a deer park and as usual very poor student accommodation ;-)

The choir of Magdalen College sings from the top of the tower every May 1st. Unfortunately I missed this big event by a few days - but luckily I had a chance to hear them still while rehearsing in the college chapel.

Oh, and Oscar Wilde studied here!

Magdalen College: The deer park of Magdalen
  • Tip Rating:
  • I couldn't believe my eyes when Barry showed me the private deer park of Magdalen College. I mean how posh can you get?

  • A beautiful building full of books! I read somewhere that there are 6.5 million books here actually. I guess that's why this building is so huge - although there is an underground tunnel system full of books even!

  • The college with the famous Bridge of Sighs. And the inner courtyard is beautiful as well. Can you imagine studying in one of these buildings? I think I'd stare out of the window thinking how lucky I am all the time instead!
