Never again!

Concentration Camp Memorial, Dachau
You might have heard the name Dachau before, in this town there was a concentration camp from 1933 to its liberation in 1945. The memorial site for this is the biggest tourist magnet of the town Dachau, even though the town has a very nice old town, too.

It was a grey and rainy day and I didn't know what to do while being in Munich. The sad day fit perfectly for a sad trip to the memorial site so I went there.
Concentration Camp Memorial, Dachau
It was the 2nd concentration camp memorial I visited after Bergen Belsen while I was still in school. Dachau was the first one, though, where I there were actual buildings left to see. In Bergen Belsen the memorial site is more like a huge graveyard on the former grounds. With the buildings (some of them rebuilt, some of them original) Dachau is even more impressive and shocking, even though less people actually died here (30,000) than in Bergen Belsen (70,000). As those are 100,000 dead people too many it's important to keep places like this in Germany.
Concentration Camp Memorial, Dachau
It was great to see hundreds of school children and tourists from all over the world visiting the memorial site. Some of them cry, some of the walk around with sad faces and some of the kids even run around screaming and laughing. In my opinion the mixture of people and their behaviours gave me hope and optimism that terrible things like those that happened here will never happen again.

Pros:"If everybody in this world will visit this place it will never happen again!"
Cons:"Some people would never visit it."
In A Nutshell:"It's not fun, it's not nice, it's just terrible. But visit anyway, please!"

Just checking for wedding pics and discovered this one. If you go on a sunny day, check out the biergarten here. It is quite nice and they have a rare to find Marzen beer on tap too. Back to work today and must say we are NOT looking forward to it. :S
