Fortuna Düsseldorf Football (Soccer) Review

Fortuna Düsseldorf is the only football club in Germany that I know of that has a punk band as their sponsor. Die Toten Hosen - a popular Punk band from Düsseldorf - gave a lot of money to help Fortuna stay alive when they were in financial trouble. Unfortunately they only play in 4th division these days, let's hope for more glorious days in the future!

Equipment: I can only advise you what not to bring... it wouldn't be too smart to wear a shirt of any Cologne club ;-)

Crosscountry Skiing at the Rine!

The crosscountry skiing world cup took place here in Düsseldorf on 26/27 October 2002!!! Snow was provided from an indoor skiing place nearby and I was there watching Norwegian skiers in a place that's almost as flat as the Netherlands!

Equipment: A camera :-) I took sooo many pictures here. It was unbelieveable. Hopefully there will be an event like this here again. More pictures are in a travelogue on this page!

Play Boule!

A fun sport! Boule players are all very friendly and the let you join them even if you are a beginner! I started a few weeks ago and love it!

Equipment: 3 silver balls and some wine to produce a "French atmosphere"

Directions: We play in the Nordpark, but you see people play boule everwhere!

DEG Metro Stars Ice Hockey Review

The stadium of one of the most popular icehockey clubs of Germany, the DEG Metro Stars, is just around the corner from where I live. I will definitely go there soon to see a match - preferable when they play their big enemies - the sharks of Cologne - Kölner Haie!

Directions: In D-Zoo (Düsseltal). Closest tram stop (708 and 706) is Brehmplatz or Grunerstrasse (just tram no. 708)
