they say the best of meetings is near open spaces and water bodies. that has been my love-hate story with singapore.
i leave the place, happy to go, but come back usually looking forward to familiarity.
i shall try and share with you 'my eye' on singapore, rather than the usual shopping belts and food places you would already have heard of.
surprise surprise, nature lives in a concrete jungle like singapore!
the park i used to escape to at lunch hour, while working in Science Park 1. By the way, this lake has a huge handful of tortoises and introduced koi (gasp!) that some visitors from nearby Normanton Park (a private housing estate) come to feed with loafs of sliced bread (yikes!!!)
The practise of abandoning pets such as terrapins, kois, turtles etc is a sign that as a nation Singapore has a long way to go, in learning to have a heart for animals.
It is sad that most visitors to SIngapore only see the 'heart of the city' -- shopping and completely miss out on the 5% of nature gazetted land on the island.
As i type this, the cicadas outside form the prominent backdrop of sounds (it's 7.45pm).
Singapore sits 1 degree north of the equator. 90% of tropical/equatorial animals are nocturnal. the animal life at night during our reservoir parks is fascinating.
- In a nutshell:Come to Singapore with an open mind -- especially towards things you never expect.

Glad to see a tip on Earth Day. My only visit to Singapore was a stopover on the way to Vietnam. We took a no-visa bus tour from the airport, but it was raining so hard we saw NOTHING. They drove us up a hill & said there was a great view from here, LOL.
You obviously have a lot of compassion towards animals - something I haven't noticed too much of in Asia.
