I stayed in Bovec from 14th to 28th August 2005 in order to attend a Slovene course at the Summer School Bovec (Poletna šola Bovec), a project developed by Austrian, Italian and Slovenian universities, including the University of Trieste, where I am studying.
Initially I was rather sceptical about this holiday and I didn't want to go, as I thought I would got bored two weeks in the mountains. Well, the village was really boring (too little for my tastes!) but it would have been the greatest mistake of my life If I hadn't gone there, because I have met very special people who have become real friends of mine. I had never enjoyed staying with other people so much as at the Poletna šola.
This page will contain my wonderful memories about this fortnight, plus some tips about places located in the village of Bovec. I will put tips and photos concerning the worth seeing things outside the village in my Občina Bovec page (to come).

This is a poem I have written on 5th September, remembering the beatiful times I had there.

Il miracolo di Bovec

14 agosto 2005

Partenza per Bovec, villaggio
sperduto nelle Alpi slovene,
con in testa un solo miraggio:
della mamma lenire le pene.

Pochi obiettivi avevo in mente:
a che servono due settimane
di sloveno, se attualmente
non so manco chieder del pane?

15-27 agosto

Chi avrebbe mai osato sperare
che un lasso di tempo sì breve
un carattere potesse cambiare
come il calore scioglie la neve?

Non io. Mai al mondo avrei pensato
di incontrare persone stupende
capaci di farmi scordare il passato
e guardare felice al sole che splende.

Eppure eran là, quasi ad aspettarmi!
Con me volevan ridere, scherzare,
discutere di tutto, punzecchiarmi
per poter fino in fondo apprezzare

il mio vero carattere, le mie qualità
che troppo spesso devo nascondere
perché gran parte dell’umanità
non le apprezza, ché non sa rispondere.

Ma non solo discussioni profonde
mi aspettavano a Bovec, sulla soglia
dell’hotel Alp, sulle isontine sponde,
più limpide di quanto Dio non voglia.

C’erano anche sorrisi a profusione,
risate e complimenti in abbondanza
tali da infondere grande emozione
in chi non esce mai dalla sua stanza.

28 agosto

Dopo una bellissima serata,
passata nella migliore compagnia,
fra uno Shangai e una briscolata,
(spesso persa, ma non per colpa mia),

senza il pensiero di andare a dormire
nonostante le ore piccole incombenti,
cosciente che stavan per finire
due settimane di luce rifulgenti,

arriva la mattina, quindi la partenza:
baci, abbracci e tristezza infinita
perché ognuno di noi resta senza
un quid entrato ormai nella sua vita.

Ci rivedremo molto presto, ci diciamo;
chi a Udine, chi a Lubiana, chi a Trieste.
Non è impossibile, certo, lo sappiamo,
ma le anime nostre restan meste.

Però, quando quel giorno finalmente
non sarà più miraggio ma realtà,
tutti saremo conquistati totalmente
da un sol sentir sincero: la felicità!

Hi! Interesting tips... I was in this part of Slovenia last weekend andmy impressions about restaurants, food, people and everything are quite positive. Food was just great, it remembered me of russian cuisine a bit, then people were friendly and open...

When I was in Slovenia I tryed to speak in Croatan with the locals and they refused to talk to me. I siad that I was from Macedonia and than they spoke with me in Serbo-Croatian. But this was a long time ago, I thought that attitude was changed.

Michele, interesting little page about your time in Bovec. I didn't know about the big and small portions in restaurants. Up to now, I have only been to Ljubljana, Bled and Skofja Loka in Slovenia. Have a nice weekend
