Guimiliau and its enclos paroissial

Visit Guimiliau, not far from Morlaix, to see its enclos paroissial, with the richest calvaire of the whole Bretagne: more than 500 statues!

Saint-Thégonnec and its unlucky enclos paroissial

The village of Saint-Thégonnec, near Morlaix, is famous for its enclos paroissial but also for the fire that destroyed many parts of the church on 8th June 1998.
In the morning of a normal day, a boy is playing with the candles in the church. His parents tell him to come away from there; he continues staying there; at a certain moment, he incidentally sets fire to the church.
Many parts of the church were destroyed but the people of the village could save something and, after long works, the church of Saint-Thégonnec has been reopened to the visitors.

Guerlesquin and its musical market

If you can, visit Guerlesquin (near Morlaix) on Monday. It's the day of the market.
This is not a "normal" market with typical Breton products, it's a musical market. As you will see in my Guerlesquin travelogues, musicians go through the streets of the village where the market takes place and perform Gaelic music. It's a real must, don't miss it!

Grand Phare de l'Ile-Vierge

Go to see this lighthouse: with its 82.50 metres it is the highest lighthouse in Europe and the highest stone lighthouse in the world! It was built between 1897 and 1902. It's located on a small island (Ile-Vierge) that can be reached on foot on some days of the year, during the low tide. Otherwise you have to take a boat, which costs some 5 euro, so we didn't go there but we enjoyed the lighthouse anyway.

Saint-Jean-du-Doigt and its enclos paroissial

The village of Saint-Jean-du-Doigt, near Morlaix has a nice enclos paroissial. Although its calvaire is not as beautiful as those of Saint-Thégonnec or Guimiliau, I suggest you'd visit it.

Morlaix

Morlaix is one of the most important towns of the département Finistère. It has an important harbour and is worth visiting for some monuments:
1) the railway viaduct: it's the most relevant architecture of the town, since you can see it from everywhere;
2) the house of Duchesse Anne de Bretagne, which you should really visit;
3) the church of Saint-Mathieu: you will see there the opening statue of Notre-Dame du Mur.
