My parents and I stopped in Belfort while we were moving from Colmar in Alsace to Mégève in Savoie. The town doesn't have a long past, since its existance was first documented in 1226. Its inhabitants repelled three sieges from the citadel, in 1814, 1815 and 1870-71. The modern Belfort is known for its TGV-factories, where the French high-speed trains are produced. |
