There should be a citadel...

... but we couldn't see it

Montreuil-sur-Mer doesn't actually lie on the sea, as its name suggests. It is a village in Northern France's countryside, halfway between Boulogne-sur-Mer and Abbeville, in Picardie. It is known for its Citadelle, built in the 16th century over a previous Medieval castle.
The citadel was actually the reason why my parents and I decided to visit Montreuil, but we couldn't visit it because, shortly after we arrived there, it started raining and we had to go away. You can see a photo of the citadel here.
However, we could see a couple of churches and take some beautiful pictures, especially of flowers!

Victor Hugo was in Montreuil!

Famous French writer Victor Hugo was in Montreuil on 4th September 1837 and some years later he decided to set in this village the first part of his novel Les Misérables.
Every summer, a sound-and-lights spectacle (spectacle son et lumières) commemorates the story of Jean Valjean and the other characters of Hugo's.

In spite of rainy weather it seemed to be a charming town because of wonderful flowers and fabulous architecture. Thanks Michele for sharing! I wish you see the Citadel next time!
