The first concentration camp

Dachau was the first concentration camp opened by Hitler in 1933. Unlike what many people think, this was not an extermination camp and it was not conceived to kill Jewish people, but to emprison (and also kill, of course) political opponents, namely communists and social-democrats, as well as homosexuals and gipsies (Roma).

 I was once in Mauthausen in Austria and got really a heavy impression...but visiting such place make you understand how it was really and not to forget....

 A terrible place! We were close to Dachau in 2004 but didn't come there because my wife was afraid of getting a heavy impression. Yes, "honour to the dead, warning to the living"...
