Hi and welcome to my Arctic Page.
Exactly what area constitutes THE ARCTIC I'm not certain. The farthest north I have ever been is Newfoundland and the landscape there certainly did look rather barron with sparse vegetation in the very northern part. I guess you could consider the arctic really starting at the point where trees stop growing, called the treeline which runs from Alaska east through northern Canada making its way southward as it comes east. The Rocky Mountains in western North America tend to channel the cold artic air as it moves south and eastward from the polar regions making the eastern part of the continent much colder than the west coast in the winter time.

There is lots of natural beauty to be seen in the arctic regions here.
