In my garden everything is unruly, having a mind of its own as to where it will grow and how it will live. In Paris, however, there is order and elegance. Like this garden just in back of Notre Dame. (No wonder the French are a quasi-socialist country --- what capitalist, efficiency-driven culture would pay for public servants to keep the garden in this condition? Not the USA, that's for sure.

For heaven's sake, don't just go in Notre Dame to see the rose window, climb the towers or visit the Roman crypts without heading out behind the cathedral to the lovely park and view that awaits there. The pictures that follow are from that park.

There is a sandbox for children to play in ... just behind the largest, most famous cathedral in France (excluding Chartres perhaps). A sandbox for Parisians between 3 and 10, not for tourists. Can you imagine a sandbox on the grounds of the Washington catherdral in DC? Not even close.
