The Passion Play
This play is presented every ten years.
The stage is open air but the audience sits under a roof. The day we were there it RAINED in the afternoon - I mean LOTS OF WATER (viel wasser). The actors stood in the rain dripping! The audience was dry.
I wonder if they have since covered the stage!
In 2010, hundreds of thousands will flock to the Bavarian village of Oberammergau, Germany, to see the famed Passion Play, a nearly 400-year-old tradition.
The Passion Play depicts the last five days in the life of Jesus Christ, from Palm Sunday to Easter. Preserved throughout the centuries, the Oberammergau Passion Play was performed for the 40th time in 2000, when nearly half a million visitors came to watch 110 performances of the play.
The 41st Passion Play will run daily May through September 2010.
