It was here in Yorktown on 19th October 1781 after battle between American along with their French allies against the British Army that American Independance was won, when the British commanded by Lord Cornwallis surrended to General George Washington.

| | Today this village that was once under siege is now at peace and I recommend that if you are in this area to visit. It is so beautiful.
Situated on the York River in the south east of the state of Virginia. Approximately 12 miles from Williamsburg.
|
The town was established in 1691 and by the early 1700's was a thriving port with docks, wharfs and businesses along the river.
On the streets above the river lived the wealthy merchants in their grand houses. By the 1750's there was a population of 1,800.
