Washington DC, the capitol of the United States of America and the seat of the President.
So much to see is this sprawling capitol, and only a few days to see it in. Before booking for our trip I had asked vt members what DC would be like in July, and everyone agreed 'HOT'!!!!!!! And I confirm that yes indeed it was hot, and to be truthful I wish we had gone either May time or September. Rushing round a huge capitol like this and trying to see as much as you can in a few days with the heat and humidity was just too much. But as school holidays dictated, we didnt really have much choice.
However, we did enjoy what we saw and also one important factor was that we met vt soccergrrl (twice!!!!!!) and her husband.
I must also point out that just before we went to DC our camera broke :-( and so we used our son's which really wasnt very good, therefore the quality of some of the photographs isnt too great, so I have used some more recent photographs that my husband took on his recent business trip to DC. He didnt have time to visit all the places we had seen together but I will use a mixture of his trip and our trip.
My thanks again to soccergrrl and her husband who also took my husband out one evening on his recent trip.
This page was originally done after from our visit in July 2002, however, we did spend a couple of nights here again this year in August 2003, and I have therefore changed a bit and added some things. And yes it was still hot in DC But thankfully not quite as bad as last year. |
| | Apparently the White House hasnt always been called the White House, but was once known as the Presidents House. It was only after the British had set fire to the White House in 1812 and then it was painted white and the name was then allowed to be used by Teddy Roosevelt. |
