Fondest Memory: On the Sunday morning we decided that the first place to visit was St. Peters Basilica. You can imagine how delighted we were that when we arrived the Pope was saying Mass. The piazza was packed and we were standing near the back, but that did not lessen our enjoyment. As you can see from the photograph there are large screens to be able to see everything much better. When mass is being celebrated in the piazza, entry into St. Peters is not possible.

Favorite Thing: The Vatican is a city in its own right, so here is a photo of me and my son, straddling the white line diving the Vcatican City and the City of Rome.

Favorite Thing: The Vittorio Emmanuelle monument was built between 1885-1911 in honour of King Victor Emmanuel. It is also the resting place of the unknown soldier and has an eternal flame and is guarded by soldiers. It has many steps leading up to a viewing area. Some people call it the typewriter because of its looks.

Favorite Thing: The spanish steps are situated at the end of the Via Condotti. In the summer they are usually packed with people sitting on them people watching. Standing facing the steps is the house which is now a Museum to Shelley and Keats and where they lived at one time. There is information about Keats, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley and Lord Byrom in the museum. Opening hours: 9am - 1pm - 2.30pm-5.30pm Monday - Friday Entrance fee is payable.
Fondest Memory: Its not really my fonest memory, but it seems whenever I have visited Rome, I seem to spend time sitting on these steps putting sticking plasters (bandaid) on my sore feet!!! The last time in November 2000, it had rained and the steps were damp so I sat on a carrier bag to protect my rear end from getting wet!!! :-) Just thought I would share that with you all -lol

Favorite Thing: This triumphal arch was built to commemorate Constantines victory over Maxentius in 312AD But the arch is actually built with bits and pieces from other things. Some stonework from 81AD and some hunting scenes from 117AD It is adjacent to the Coloseum.

Favorite Thing: 3 coins in a fountain. Thats what I always think about when seeing photos of the famous Trevi Fountain. There was a film and a song with this title. I first visited here many years ago with my mum, the last time with my husband and son 30 years later, but its still a magical place to visit. Whenever I have visited the fountain, its always amazing to walk up these tiny narrow streets, when suddenly there right in front of you stands this huge monument/fountain. It was built in the late 18th century and the water that feeds it comes from one of Rome's ear.liest aquaducts. Legend has it that it you throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain then one day you will return. Its always busy here no matter what time of year and this time was no exception. However it was marred by people constantly pestering us to buy things, from toys to artificial flowers. At first you say no politely but they dont seem to get the drift. The fountain is situated off the Via De Muratte. Or coming from the Piazza Barbarini down the Via del Tritone you take a left off that road.
