Sharing the beach on the Togians - Pulau Togian

Superb beaches and terrific swimming

The Togians are a great place to relax and unwind. Smaller accommodation places such as Fadhila Cottages on Pulau Pangempa have only 6 to 8 bungalows which means there is never a crowd and plenty of beach space - just be prepared to share it with the crabs. Bring plenty of books or be prepared to trade. For some of the smaller places, bring your own snorkelling gear.

Meeting friendly people

In a way, this is no different to all parts of Indonesia I have been to, but I found the local people, especially those not directly involved in tourism, extremely friendly. They loved having their photo taken and did simple things like climbing a coconut tree and offering us fresh coconut milk without expecting anything in return.

Inter-island exploration

Diving, snorkelling and relaxing on the beach are the key pursuits for tourists in the Togians, but don't pass up the chance for some inter-island exploration. Most accommodation sites can organise day or half-day boat trips around the islands. There is some beautiful scenery en-route to visiting the sea gypsies and some great snorkelling spots along reefs adjacent to uninhabited islands.
