"Relax, relax and relax again" Pulau We by Daihappydai
Pulau We Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 50 photos
There are several main tourist areas on Pulau Weh - Iboih and Gapang beaches on the north west and a few options on the east. From the harbour, transport to Iboih village is around 50,000 rupaih. It is a quiet little village with a few places to eat and a souvenir shop. From the village you take a path that leads to the tourist accommodation. There are several options so you can look around - generally no need to book in advance apart from Indonesian holiday time when locals will travel from Banda Aceh and Medan for the weekend.
There is plenty to see in the waters around Pulau Weh. Unfortunately, due to rising water temperatures, there has been massive coral bleaching during the last two years and there is very little coral left for snorkellers to see. There is still a wide range of fish that snorkellers can spot off Iboih and other beaches, and beautiful clams off Pulau Rubiah.
For those diving, down deeper you will see coral, sharks, eels and a huge variety of fish.
The Iboih beach area is certainly a place for relaxing. A lot of the accommodation is built right on the shore line - very little actual sandy beach but most of the accommodation has steps into the water for easy access.
If you want to get lost in a bit of reading and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Pulau Weh is a great choice.
- Pros:A beautiful, laid back place to relax
- In a nutshell:A true escape from the hustle and bustle

Great tips on Pulau Weh but wasn't it called Sabang Island at one time!!
Cheers Davidjo,
Yes, it's interesting, some people, including many of the locals still call it Sabang. Sabang is certainly the name of the main town.
I noticed you also looked at some of my Sumbawa Besar tips - I had a great trip across Sumbawa in January - Bima, Dompu, Pantai Lakey, Sumbawa Besar then on to Tetebatu in Lombok and a few days on Gili meno before heading back to Australia (so, I've done my Sumbawa pages and am just ow getting around to Gili meno).
Have you been to Sumbawa - fantastic as so few tourists and lots to do. In each place I simply hired an ohek driver to take me to places locals like to see - the best way of doing it.
By the way, I notice you have been to Brunei several times. I am escaping the Melbourne winter for 15 days end of June. Flying to Brunei, then heading down to Miri to get to Mulu for five days. Do you know anything about transport from Brunei (BSB) to Miri? Also, what would you consider are the 'must sees' in Brunei. My arrangements at the moment are two days Brunei, one day travel to Miri, five days Mulu (flights already booked), back to Miri, then I have seven days left - either more of north Saawak or more of Brunei. What would you recommend. I'm travelling alone and on a bit of a budget - Brunei is certainly more expensive than most other south-east asia countries and arranged tours for single travellers are more than I normally pay.
Any advice would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Daihappydai
