This New Year's Eve I went to Istanbul for the first time and to Turkey for the second. I can say that my positive expectations were satisfied and Istanbul is one of the place where I would definitely go back.
Istanbul impresses with so many things but after all these are the Black Sea (Kara Deniz) and the Sea of Marmara (Marmara Deniz), which cohabitate well with the Asian and European parts of one and the same city. The sea gives the city of 15 million people the flavour of freshness and fish, as well as coolness on the long and hot summer days.
A city with many faces. No single culture is dominant here. There are mosques, churches, synagogues, Turks, Kurds, Circassians, Albanians, Arabs, Bosnians, Russians, Bulgarians, Greeks, easterners, westerner, young, elderly, veiled, unveiled, etc.
Roman, Byzantinian, Osman, Western influence.
Religion, colour, water, land and always a lot of people.... All this is Istanbul.

We are going to Euromeet and the need to find our way to Istanbul. Might go through Sofia. Hate long bus rides. No International Greek trains. I know we could fly from Skopje?
