Beach Life...

After living in San Diego close to 5 years now -- I would say I definitely have a feel for the beaches here and what they each have to offer in terms of surfing, general ambience, restaurants, bars, etc. -- and overall my favorite beach would have to be Pacific Beach. PB is quite large and can accommodate the crowds of summer, as well as can be a great place to relax on a nice Spring or Fall day. There are also quite a few good restaurants here -- and it is also the birthplace of the famous Rubio's Mexican food restaurant. Also, Mission Beach just down the way has The Wavehouse -- a man-made standing barrel where daredevils take there turns getting 'shacked' and have also been seen doing switch cutbacks and rodeo flips. It's a great place to people watch as it is right on the beach and has a bar and restaurant attached. If you want something a bit more artsy and funky -- head to Ocean Beach just south of Mission Beach. It's a real tight community of interesting but cool and artsy folk, surfers, and the like. Just make sure to follow the signs to Sunset Cliffs Blvd. as there is no freeway exit on the 5 south for this beach.
