6 of us visited New York for 4 days and had a wonderful time. We did all of the usual tourist sites. It was very cold but that didn't bother us. On our last day we had snow, which made it very difficult to get around, but the hotel which we were staying at ( The Beekman Tower) were very helpful and arranged a driver to take us where we wanted to go. Everything was fine until we were at the airport waiting to come home. Throughout the day we rang the airline enquiring if our flight was still ok, and each time they said no problem. At JFK we were in the queue for hours, the monitors kept saying our flight was on time.Eventually we got to the check in desk and were told to go straight to security, we past through there and went through to the departure lounge, there was no where to sit as it was packed. 11.00pm An hour after we were due to take off we were told our flight was cancelled and told to go home, HELLO!!!! what did they think we were doing. We went to the airline desk to try and find out when we were likely to get a plane out, they were not very helpful. It took two and a half hours for them to take our luggage off of the plane and then 1 of our cases was damaged. After about 4 hours the airline told us that if we could get ourselves to Newark there was a flight. We managed to get transport to Newark which cost us $200. When we got there they informed us that the flight had been cancelled. After a lot of discussion they put us on standby to fly to Raleigh Durham then on to Gatwick. At about 12.00pm the next day 2 of our party got on the flight to Raleigh Durham. The rest of us were put on standby again this time to Dallas then onto Heathrow. We didn't get on that flight either. By this time we were extreamly tired and hungry. Spending a lot of time on the telephones and checking desks. At about 4.00pm we were told to get ourselves back to JFK and there was a flight to Heathrow. After queuing for ages we eventually got to the departure lounge for the flight at 9.30pm, where we were told that this one may not take off. But it did thank goodness. All of this hasn't put us off, but we certainly will not be flying with that particular airline ever again, the staff were very rude and certainly they were not helpful in any way. It was a horrible ending to a fantastic trip to New York. |
