"Romania" Romania by klawson

My fourth visit. I am on loan to the Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest, to teach on their International Masters Programme. I get hosted by the Academy and spend time with Romanian families (who become good friends).

The opera and ballet are incredibly cheap (but the surtitles in opera are in Romanian, not English, obviously).

Monastery at Curtea De Arges

Delightful county town, famous for its monastery and the ancient Princely Church.

Mountains

My wife and I were guests in a mountain lodge with other Romanians (we had a barbecue in the evening, and a stroll through the woods in the afternoon to get an appetite). I think these are the Faragesi mountains but I might be wrong.

• Pros:English spoken, not over touristed yet, great scenery
• Cons:prices have risen since entry into EU; not used to being a tourist destination so service not always good; vegetarianism not understood or provided for
