Brno - An Expat's View - Brno

Brno, the Czech Republic's second city, is an interesting counterpoint to haunted, hallowed Prague. The capital of Moravia, it has a distinctly different atmosphere from Prague, and for a city of 400,000 people it has a small town feel.

The centre is very small and the sights can be easily navigated in a day, and the charms of Brno are not as readily accessible as in Prague. In terms of bars, restaurants and service, it is easily ten years behind the Golden City.

For most visitors the city won't warrant more than a day or two's stay, but it does make an excellent base for travelling the wine regions of the area, which has many gorgeous villages and towns, and on to Vienna and Bratislava.

Tip Note: Some of the places I've recommended aren't in the immediate center, so to follow the directions, it will be necessary to familiarize yourself with three main hubs for public transport - Hlavni Nadrazi, Ceska & Mendlovo Namesti.
