Luggage And Bags: We took the Rick Steves bag that can also be carried as a large backpack. It can be either carry on luggage or checked in. Otherwise, use luggage with wheels.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: I would suggest in the shoulder season at least, to dress in layers of clothing you can take off if need be. Pack rain gear, umbrella, backpack, walking shoes, thick socks (eases the walking)..
Toiletries & Medical Supplies: Pack washclothes as they consider them personal items and won't supply them.
Photo Equipment: We bought an extra battery for our video camera so that we wouldn't have to recharge so often.
Miscellaneous: A British adapter might prove useful. Our hotel had a dual voltage outlet for a razor, which we were surprised to see. Money wise, bring your ATM card and traveler's checks in pounds (they are easy to cash there, as opposed to dollar ones).
